Chris Holt to Join Red Sox as Bullpen Coach After Departing Orioles
Former Orioles pitching director Chris Holt has agreed to become the new bullpen coach for the Boston Red Sox, according to Roch Kubatko of MASNsports.com. Holt has received a formal offer, and his hiring could be officially announced as soon as next week.
Holt left his position with the Baltimore Orioles at the end of the 2023 season following a coaching overhaul prompted by the team’s underwhelming finish and early postseason exit. He was one of several staff members replaced, including hitting coaches Ryan Fuller and Matt Borgschulte.
During his time with the Orioles, Holt worked his way up from minor league pitching coordinator to major league pitching coach, ultimately overseeing the entire organization’s pitching operations. His previous experience with Orioles GM Mike Elias, whom he worked with in Houston, played a role in his rise through the ranks.
In Boston, Holt will take on a more focused role within a revamped pitching staff. He’ll work alongside Andrew Bailey, the new pitching coach hired by Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow, and Justin Willard, the director of pitching. Holt fills the position vacated by Kevin Walker, who was let go following the 2023 season.
