The Philadelphia 76ers’ rough start to the 2024-25 season has taken another blow. Joel Embiid was unexpectedly ruled out of Friday’s game against the Brooklyn Nets due to swelling in his left knee, despite not being listed on the injury report earlier in the day. Embiid, who had already missed 10 of the team’s first 11 games with knee issues, had played a season-high 35 minutes in a loss to the Memphis Grizzlies just two days earlier.
With his knee flaring up again, Embiid is also expected to miss Sunday’s matchup against the Los Angeles Clippers to undergo treatment. The 76ers are expected to provide an update on his condition early next week.
This injury setback for Embiid comes shortly after Paul George suffered a knee hyperextension, marking his second such injury this season. The 76ers’ highly anticipated trio of Embiid, George, and Tyrese Maxey has played together just once, which has contributed to the team’s disappointing 3-12 start.
Through four games, Embiid has struggled, averaging only 19.8 points and 7.5 rebounds on a poor 37.9% shooting. His season has been marked by more headlines off the court than on, as injuries and controversies continue to overshadow his performance.
