One of the names Toronto is reportedly targeting is Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm, according to Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report. Rymer ranks the Blue Jays as the third-best fit for Bohm, proposing a trade that would send Toronto infielder Davis Schneider and right-hander Jake Bloss to the Phillies in exchange for the former All-Star.
While Bohm’s star power may not be on the level of big-name targets like Juan Soto or Alex Bregman, Rymer believes he could be a game-changer for the Blue Jays. In a lineup that already includes superstars Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette, and George Springer, adding a reliable bat like Bohm’s would significantly boost Toronto’s offensive production, which struggled mightily in 2024. The Blue Jays’ third basemen hit a combined .259 with a .293 OBP last season, a number far below the expectations for a team aiming for playoff contention.
Bohm, a 26-year-old with a consistent bat and improving power, would provide much-needed stability at third base and slot nicely into the heart of Toronto’s order. His right-handed bat would complement the left-handed sluggers in the lineup, offering a balanced attack against both left and right-handed pitchers. Additionally, his solid defense at third base would help stabilize an infield that at times seemed shaky in 2024.
While Bohm may not possess the same level of flair as the bigger names on Toronto’s radar, such as Soto or Bregman, Rymer argues that he could be the perfect fit for the Blue Jays’ current needs.
