The Kansas State Wildcats lost a player to the NCAA transfer portal on Friday. Redshirt freshman receiver Tre Spivey shared on social media that he would be leaving the K-State program.
Spivey posted on X: “After much prayer and consideration, I have decided to enter the NCAA transfer portal with 3 years left. Thank you for everything. Once a Wildcat, always a Wildcat.”
This season, Spivey recorded 14 receptions for 160 yards and one touchdown.
Meanwhile, head coach Chris Klieman said that with the recent influx of players Kansas State signed, the team is preparing to make moves in the transfer portal starting Monday.
Klieman added, “To have the great [Wednesday] morning that we had, and then at 8:25, when that closes, we open up the next book. There’s all sorts of conversations opening the next three days.”
Although it’s unclear which players will return, Klieman acknowledged that the transfer portal is part of the current landscape of college football. “We know we’re going to lose some guys. Everybody in the country is losing players to the portal,” he said. “Some for opportunity, some because of transactional commitments about final dollar amounts. That’s not going anywhere… We’re trying to be as competitive as we can.”
Kansas State could look to bolster its defense, particularly the secondary, which ranked mid-tier in the Big 12 for pass defense and near the bottom in interceptions.
