"Shocking Move: 5-Star QB Ditches Ohio State for Transfer Portal – Is the Buckeye Dynasty Crumbling?"
For the second consecutive year, Ohio State is losing a 5-star quarterback to the transfer portal.
Last season, the Buckeyes moved on from Kyle McCord to make way for Will Howard. This year, it’s former 5-star recruit Devin Brown who’s making the exit.
Brown shared the news on his X profile, but with an important caveat: he will remain with the team throughout the College Football Playoff. This is significant, as some players transferring mid-season can hurt their current team’s postseason chances. Brown, however, will honor his commitment until the end of the year.
A junior from Arizona, Brown has played in 47 career attempts, completing 26 passes for 325 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 1 interception, along with a rushing touchdown.
His departure could have major implications for Ohio State’s future, especially with Julian Sayin in the wings. A former 5-star quarterback who transferred from Alabama to the Buckeyes, Sayin could be poised to take over in 2025.
For now, Ohio State’s focus is on the 2023 season. The Buckeyes, sitting at 10-2, earned the No. 8 seed in the College Football Playoff and will face Tennessee in the first round on December 21.
