In a move that could help the Kentucky Wildcats improve their struggling offense, the program made a splash in the transfer portal on Friday, securing the commitment of former Alabama wide receiver Kendrick Law. The 5-foot-11, 209-pound wideout brings his blend of athleticism and experience to a Kentucky squad desperate for a boost in the passing game after a dismal 2024 campaign.
Law, a former four-star recruit from Shreveport, Louisiana, spent three seasons with the Crimson Tide, showcasing flashes of potential but never becoming a full-time starter. Over his tenure at Alabama, Law caught 33 passes for 343 yards and a touchdown. His best season came in 2022, when he earned the No. 86 national ranking according to 247 Sports, adding depth to Alabama’s impressive receiving corps.
What makes Law even more intriguing for Kentucky is his raw athletic ability. A standout track athlete in high school, he ran a blazing 10.48-second 100-meter dash, paired with a 22.5-second 200-meter dash and a 22-foot-8-inch long jump. This speed and explosiveness could make him an immediate playmaking threat for the Wildcats, who desperately need to improve their passing attack in 2025.
Kentucky’s offense struggled significantly in 2024, finishing 111th in the nation in passing yards (184.8 yards per game) and 82nd in rushing yards (145.6 yards per game). The Wildcats also ended the season with a dismal 4-8 record, including a 1-7 mark in SEC play. With quarterback issues and a lack of consistent receiving threats, Kentucky’s offensive woes were clear. Law, along with other transfer additions like former Incarnate Word quarterback Zach Calzada, will provide new weapons for the Wildcats as they look to bounce back from their disappointing season.
Law’s commitment is significant, especially after the departure of several Alabama receivers, including Kobe Prentice, Caleb Odom, and Emmanuel Henderson. After the Crimson Tide’s failure to make the College Football Playoff, Law entered the transfer portal on December 8, and Kentucky wasted no time in bringing him into the fold.
As a junior with one year of eligibility remaining, Law will have a chance to make an immediate impact in Lexington. Kentucky’s new starting quarterback, likely to be Zach Calzada, will appreciate having a proven target like Law on the roster. Rising sophomore Cutter Boley is also expected to get a shot at the starting role but may have to wait a year behind Calzada, making Law an important addition for the Wildcats’ immediate future.
Kentucky’s offense needed an upgrade, and Kendrick Law could be just the player to provide it. With his blend of size, speed, and SEC experience, Law has the tools to elevate the Wildcats’ passing game and provide new hope for a program looking to get back on track.
