"Knicks Ink Deal with Veteran Sharpshooter Following Successful Injury Comeback"
After waiving Landry Shamet, the New York Knicks have re-signed the veteran guard following his full recovery from a preseason shoulder injury, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. Shamet, who had suffered the injury during a preseason game, was initially released due to concerns about a lengthy recovery. However, the Knicks had always planned to bring him back once he was fully healed.
Charania reported on X (formerly Twitter), “The New York Knicks have agreed to a deal with guard Landry Shamet, his agent George S. Langberg of GSL Sports Group told ESPN. Shamet has fully recovered from his preseason shoulder injury and now returns to the team.”
The Knicks’ interest in re-signing Shamet was always a possibility. As reported by ClutchPoints’ Kris Pursiainen in October, sources indicated that Shamet was expected to recover from his dislocated shoulder by January 2025, which was his original contract guarantee date. Pursiainen also mentioned that while the team waived Shamet, re-signing him once he was healthy was still very much on the table.
Head coach Tom Thibodeau had shown interest in Shamet during training camp, and now that he is cleared to play, the Knicks will likely need to make roster adjustments. Analyst Yossi Gozlan suggested that the team might waive a non-guaranteed player, such as Matt Ryan, and offer Shamet a two-way contract that wouldn’t impact the salary cap.
