The Kentucky Wildcats were hoping to secure a late Christmas gift with the addition of Ball State transfer cornerback Myles Norwood. However, after narrowing his choices to Kentucky and South Carolina, Norwood chose to commit to the Gamecocks on Thursday, as reported by Pete Nakos of On3.
Norwood, a 6-foot-1, 183-pound cornerback, finished the 2024 season with 38 tackles, two fumble recoveries, and five pass deflections. He earned a solid coverage grade of 71.8 from Pro Football Focus after 456 snaps across 12 games. Most of his time was spent at outside cornerback, with some action at nickel back.
Norwood’s college journey started at Iowa Western Community College as a track and field athlete, before a brief stint at Iowa State in 2022. He then transferred to New Mexico State, and later to Ball State to be closer to his family. At Ball State, he quickly became a key player. His move to South Carolina gives him the chance to compete at a higher level in the SEC.
For Kentucky, with several defensive backs leaving for the NFL or the transfer portal, Norwood would have been a valuable addition to their secondary. However, the Wildcats will now face him as an opponent in Columbia next season.
