A decade ago, the LA Galaxy clinched their fifth MLS Cup, entering the 2015 season with renewed energy after missing out in 2013. Fast forward to today, and the Galaxy are once again on top, securing their sixth MLS Cup title after making their tenth appearance in the finals.
However, their roster is expected to undergo significant changes ahead of the 2025 season. Midfielder Riqui Puig, who played through injury in the Western Conference Finals against the Seattle Sounders, suffered an ACL tear that will likely sideline him for the upcoming season.
In addition to Puig’s injury, General Manager Will Kuntz made a key move, trading MLS Cup Finals MVP Gaston Brugman to Nashville in exchange for veteran midfielder Sean Davis. Brugman had stepped up to fill in for the injured Puig and recorded the first assist in the finals.
While there haven’t been many other notable roster changes, rumors are circulating about potential moves, including a possible transfer for Igor Jesus.
The LA Galaxy and Estrela da Amadora are reportedly finalizing a $4 million transfer for the 21-year-old Brazilian, who plays both as a defender and midfielder. Jesus, who previously played for Flamengo and the U23 Brazilian National Team, would add more versatility to the Galaxy’s squad.
Julian Aude, another young player with dual-position abilities, and recent first-round pick Jason Bucknor also offer similar flexibility in the squad. Should Jesus join, he would further strengthen the team’s depth, especially as the Galaxy looks to inject youth into their ranks.
With several key players aging, including Maya Yoshida and Martin Caceres over 35, the Galaxy may be seeking to infuse younger talent into the team. The majority of the roster is in their mid-20s, with Jesus potentially joining Aude, Jalen Neal, Mauricio Cuevas, and Ruben Ramos to shape the future of the club.
Although nothing is official yet, the Galaxy has a history of making international acquisitions in the off-season, with players like Joseph Paintsil and Gabriel Pec joining in similar fashion. Fans could soon see Igor Jesus don the LA Galaxy jersey in Carson, California.
