Sam Jackson Brings Versatility to Oklahoma State’s Offensive Attack
Oklahoma State has made an intriguing addition to its offensive arsenal, landing Auburn transfer wide receiver Sam Jackson via the transfer portal. Jackson’s unique career path, spanning multiple schools and roles, makes him an interesting fit as he embarks on his fifth season of college football.
In 2024, Jackson saw limited action with the Tigers, playing in just nine games and recording only four touches on offense. He tallied two rushes for no gain and two receptions for 63 yards and a touchdown. His lack of production at Auburn didn’t deter OSU from pursuing him, as the Cowboys seek to rebuild their receiving corps following a challenging season.
Oklahoma State lost its top three receivers from 2024, with De’Zhaun Stribling transferring to Ole Miss, and Brennan Presley and Rashod Owens exhausting their eligibility. Jackson steps into a wide receiver group that desperately needs depth and fresh talent.
What makes Jackson’s addition even more unique is his history of playing multiple positions. Before his time at Auburn, Jackson spent two seasons as a quarterback at TCU, where he accumulated more rushing attempts than pass attempts. His athleticism was evident, rushing 41 times for 138 yards and three touchdowns across 2021 and 2022.
At Cal, Jackson shifted gears to a wide receiver role, though his production remained modest. In five games with the Golden Bears, he completed just 51 of 97 pass attempts for 556 yards, five touchdowns, and two interceptions, showcasing more of his running ability than his passing skills.
Now reunited with former TCU offensive coordinator Doug Meacham, who brought a spread, high-powered offensive system to Stillwater, Jackson could play a pivotal role. Meacham’s offense thrives on versatility, and Jackson’s ability to line up in multiple positions—whether it’s in the backfield or as a receiver—could make him a valuable asset in creating mismatches.
While Jackson has yet to establish himself as a consistent threat at receiver, his athleticism and experience make him a perfect fit for a Cowboys offense looking to diversify its attack. If Meacham can unlock Jackson’s potential and put him in positions where his playmaking ability can shine, Jackson could become a key contributor in Stillwater.
In a season where Oklahoma State aims to rebound and improve offensively, adding a player like Sam Jackson—who brings both experience and adaptability—could be the spark the Cowboys need to compete in the Big 12.
