Torrey Craig Emerges as a Potential Fit for Celtics’ Playoff Run

Boston Celtics Eyeing Veteran Forward to Bolster Depth for Playoff Push

The Boston Celtics remain one of the NBA’s elite teams, even as they navigate a recent mini-slump. While the ups and downs of the regular season are common for title-contending teams, Boston’s occasional lapses in focus have raised questions about their readiness for the postseason grind.

With the playoffs as their primary focus, the Celtics may need a roster tweak to ensure they’re fully prepared to compete for a championship. A minor trade could provide the depth and toughness required to keep the team sharp and versatile heading into the postseason.

A Realistic Trade Target

Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report recently highlighted potential trade targets for every NBA team, and for the Celtics, veteran forward Torrey Craig of the Chicago Bulls was listed as a realistic option.

“Injuries and an inconsistent role have limited Craig’s playing time this season, yet he’s still been a reliable outside shooter (42.9 percent from three) when given the opportunity. The veteran forward would give Boston some additional wing depth in its quest for another title,” Swartz wrote.

Craig’s ability to stretch the floor and his defensive versatility make him an attractive option for Boston, especially as a backup for star wings Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

What Craig Brings to the Celtics

Craig’s numbers for the Bulls this season are modest: 6.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 0.6 assists in just 12.6 minutes per game. However, his efficiency stands out, particularly his 42.9% shooting from beyond the arc. His skill set could provide the Celtics with valuable minutes off the bench while adding toughness and experience to a team that has championship aspirations.

While Craig may not be a game-changing acquisition, he could fill a critical role for Boston. His presence would enhance the team’s depth, allowing head coach Joe Mazzulla to rest Tatum and Brown more frequently without sacrificing floor spacing or defensive intensity.

Why the Celtics Should Act

The Celtics have limited trade assets and are unlikely to make a blockbuster move. However, a trade for Craig represents the type of low-risk, high-reward deal that could solidify Boston’s rotation and address potential vulnerabilities before the postseason.

Boston has championship aspirations and a roster built to compete at the highest level. Adding a proven veteran like Craig—who has experience with playoff-caliber teams—could be the subtle boost the Celtics need to navigate the grueling postseason.

As the trade deadline approaches, all eyes will be on whether Boston’s front office takes action to fine-tune a roster that’s already one of the league’s best. A small move like acquiring Torrey Craig might not steal headlines, but it could make all the difference when it matters most: in the playoffs.
