The Georgia Bulldogs received a significant boost in their 2026 recruiting efforts as one of the top defenders in the class committed to the program. Head coach Kirby Smart now has five commits for the 2026 class, including three four-star players, according to 247Sports. The latest addition is standout safety Zech Fort from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. Georgia was able to beat out several top programs, including Alabama, Michigan, and Ohio State, to secure his commitment.
Fort, a four-star safety ranked as the No. 39 overall player in the 2026 class and the No. 5 safety in the nation by ESPN, made a powerful statement when announcing his decision. “Where [champions] are made, Go Dawgs!” Fort told On3’s Hayes Fawcett on Thursday.
In a conversation with On3’s Chad Simmons, Fort explained that he had been leaning towards Georgia for a while. “Since I visited Georgia when they played Tennessee, I knew it,” Fort shared. “Seeing what Georgia was like and what they represent as a team and as a program, we share a lot of the same values. They have top coaches, they produce top players, and Georgia is a top program that competes for national championships every year. Who wouldn’t want to go to Georgia?”
