All-Pro right tackle Lane Johnson, who had been speculated to be considering retirement, clarified that he won’t be hanging up his cleats after the Super Bowl, regardless of the outcome. “I’m definitely not retiring after this game, win or lose,” Johnson stated on Saturday, offering a promise that will likely reassure Eagles fans. “I’m definitely playing next year.”
Since being drafted fourth overall in 2013, Johnson has been one of the NFL’s top tackles, helping to shape the Eagles’ offensive line into one of the best in league history. He’s been a crucial part of the team’s three Super Bowl appearances, including one victory. At 34 years old, he acknowledges that his career is winding down, but for now, he feels in great physical shape. “When you get up there in age, you take it one year at a time, but physically I feel a lot better than I have in the past couple of years,” Johnson shared. “I feel really good, and for this late in the year, it’s usually not like that, so I’m thankful.” For now, though, Johnson is focused on the present, with another shot at a championship in the future.
