Cavaliers Eyeing Frontcourt Help: Could Mo Bamba Be the Answer?
The Cleveland Cavaliers took a major step toward cementing themselves as legitimate NBA Finals contenders by acquiring De’Andre Hunter at the trade deadline. However, their roster isn’t quite complete yet. With one open spot remaining, the buyout market presents an opportunity to fill a key need—frontcourt depth.
One name that should be on Cleveland’s radar? Mo Bamba.
A Frontcourt Void That Needs Addressing
Even before the Hunter trade, the Cavaliers could have used additional size off the bench. But with Georges Niang heading to Atlanta in the deal, the need for another big man has only intensified. While Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen will handle the bulk of minutes at power forward and center, the team lacks a reliable backup in case of foul trouble or injuries.
That’s where Bamba, who was recently waived by the Utah Jazz, could fit in.
What Mo Bamba Brings to the Table
Bamba, a former top-10 pick, played in 28 games for the Los Angeles Clippers this season, averaging 4.6 points and 4.3 rebounds while shooting 46% from the field. While those numbers don’t jump off the page, his ability to provide competent minutes off the bench is exactly what Cleveland needs.
A 7-footer with a 7’10” wingspan, Bamba offers rim protection, rebounding, and a developing three-point shot that could complement the Cavs’ defensive-minded frontcourt. He wouldn’t be expected to play a major role, but having him as an insurance policy behind Mobley and Allen would be a smart move for a team with championship aspirations.
Will Cleveland Make a Move?
The buyout market is heating up, and the Cavaliers must decide quickly if Bamba is the right fit. While adding him wouldn’t necessarily shift the title odds in their favor, it would solidify their bench and provide much-needed depth for a deep playoff run.
With just one roster spot left to fill, Cleveland has a decision to make. Could Mo Bamba be the final piece to round out their roster?
