When you wear the green and white, expectations are sky-high. The Boston Celtics set that standard, delivering a dominant campaign last season. But through much of this year, something has been missing—a sense of connection, a natural rhythm.
That changed Saturday night.
Boston put on a commanding performance, routing the New York Knicks 131-104 in a game that head coach Joe Mazzulla called the team’s most connected effort of the season. His words sparked a response from Jayson Tatum, the team’s undisputed leader.
“It’s probably up there,” Tatum said when asked about Mazzulla’s assessment. “From start to finish, even when they went on a run, we did a really good job of responding.”
The six-time All-Star praised the Celtics’ ability to stay composed and make the right plays when it mattered most.
“We weren’t flustered or anything like that,” Tatum continued. “On both ends of the floor, when we needed a stop, we got it. When we needed a rebound, we grabbed it. When we needed to hit shots or make the right reads, we did all those things.”
Tatum Leads the Charge
Boston took control early and never let go. Tatum spearheaded the offense, pouring in 40 points while logging 37 minutes. He was relentless, going 13-of-26 from the field and knocking down seven three-pointers.
But how does he sustain such a heavy workload?
“I try to take care of my body as much as I can—eat the right things, drink a lot of Gatorade, take some naps,” Tatum said.
The Gatorade plug was a savvy move, given his endorsement deal, but the message was clear: preparation matters.
A Turning Point for Boston?
Boston’s inconsistency has been a concern this season, but this performance showed what they’re capable of when fully locked in. If the Celtics can maintain this level of connectivity and composure, they’ll be a dangerous force come playoff time.
Is this the spark they needed? Only time will tell. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
