Oregon Ducks Lose Veteran Offensive Lineman to Transfer Portal

The Oregon Ducks have been busy reinforcing their offensive line through the transfer portal, but now they find themselves on the other end of that equation. Veteran offensive tackle George Silva has reportedly entered the transfer portal and will play his final season of college football elsewhere, according to Chris Hummer of 247Sports.
Silva spent two seasons in Eugene, appearing in 13 total games. As a first-year Duck, he played in seven games, logging 51 offensive snaps at left tackle and 16 on special teams. His role in 2023 was limited, but he was part of an elite Oregon offensive line that allowed just five total sacks all season—the fewest in the nation. Despite seeing only 15 pass-blocking opportunities, Silva posted an impressive 86.2 pass-blocking grade from Pro Football Focus, allowing zero pressures.
However, with Oregon adding transfers Isaiah World (Nevada) and Alex Harkey (Texas State), as well as returning key pieces along the line, Silva’s path to a starting job became uncertain. That likely played a role in his decision to seek a new opportunity for his final college season.
While Oregon’s offensive line remains in strong shape, losing experienced depth like Silva is never ideal. Now, the Ducks must move forward without him as they prepare for another run at the College Football Playoff.
