Ohio State Keeping Tabs on Talented Freshman QB Donald Tabron II

The Ohio State Buckeyes are in the early stages of a quarterback competition for the 2025 college football season, but their coaching staff is already looking further into the future. Head coach Ryan Day and his staff are actively scouting potential quarterbacks who could shape the program in the coming years.
One name that has emerged on Ohio State’s radar is Donald Tabron II, a standout freshman quarterback from Cass Tech in Detroit. Tabron was named to the All-American Freshman Second Team in January, solidifying himself as one of the top young signal-callers in the nation. Despite only just beginning his high school career, he has already attracted interest from powerhouse programs such as Penn State and Michigan.
Now, Ohio State—fresh off its 2024 national championship—appears to be in the mix for Tabron as well.
Ohio State Hosts Tabron for a Visit
According to Mick Walker of On3, Tabron was on campus Thursday, visiting the Buckeyes at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. If he ultimately commits to Ohio State, he would join a quarterback room that is already set to welcome Brady Edmunds, a five-star recruit from the class of 2027 who has given an early commitment to the program.
Tabron’s visit adds to an impressive list of top recruits who were on campus that day. The Buckeyes also hosted a trio of four-star 2026 prospects: Favour Akih, James Monroe, and Messiah Hampton.
A Quarterback in High Demand
While Ohio State is a strong contender, Tabron is keeping his options open. He recently visited Penn State and shared his thoughts with Steve Wiltfong of On3:
“For me, the highlight of this Penn State visit was really deepening the relationship and getting to know the campus beyond the stadium and football facility.”
Tabron has also been in contact with Maryland’s coaching staff. After his visit to the Terrapins, he took to social media to express appreciation for the program:
“I enjoy being a sponge around great football minds. @TerpsFootball has two of the best! OC Pep Hamilton and QB coach Ted White are a pleasure to learn from. Great conversation as always with Coach Locks. Good to be back. Appreciate @CoachThomas_14 for the love as always.”
What’s Next for Tabron?
Tabron is just beginning his high school career, so he has plenty of time to make a college decision. However, the Buckeyes face stiff competition from several top programs, including their biggest rival, Michigan.
Ohio State’s ability to develop quarterbacks and compete for national championships will certainly be an appealing factor for Tabron as he evaluates his options. While a commitment isn’t expected anytime soon, the Buckeyes are making an early push to secure one of the most promising young quarterbacks in the nation.
