Oregon’s Five-Star Commitment from Richard Wesley May Not Be Final After All

Wesley, a top-10 national prospect in the 2026 class per Rivals, made waves by committing to the Ducks in a viral moment that saw him leap into a pool alongside head coach Dan Lanning on Sunday. But according to his father, Jonathan Wesley, the decision caught the family off guard.
“It was kind of a shock,” Jonathan told Rivals’ Adam Gorney. “We had a plan set in stone, but I guess the over-excitement took over. This whole process is a lot—for a kid and for us as adults.”
Jonathan made it clear the family hasn’t fully committed to Oregon and that official visits to other programs are still in play.
“There’s nothing locked in with Oregon in terms of the full picture,” he said. “We like Oregon a lot, but there’s still some fine-tuning we need to do.”
Texas was mentioned as a possible destination for another visit, and the elder Wesley emphasized that his son hasn’t indicated he’s ready to shut down his recruitment.
“When I spoke to him, he didn’t say it was over,” Jonathan added. “He’s still open and exploring his options. This isn’t a final decision—there’s more to figure out.”
Notably, Wesley made his commitment while on a solo visit to Eugene, without his family present.
Now, the onus is on Lanning and the Ducks staff to make sure their marquee recruit remains in the fold.
