The 2025 NFL offseason has delivered plenty of excitement, with several marquee players switching teams.
The Pittsburgh Steelers, who closed out a disappointing 2024 campaign with five straight losses, saw both of their quarterbacks head to New York. Russell Wilson agreed to a one-year, $10.5 million contract with the Giants, while Justin Fields landed a two-year, $40 million deal with the Jets.
It took nearly three months after the start of free agency on March 12 for Pittsburgh to fill the quarterback vacancy. But on Thursday, following weeks of speculation, the Steelers made their move—signing Aaron Rodgers to a one-year deal.
Rodgers’ stint with the Jets fell short of expectations. He tore his Achilles in the first week of the 2023 season, sidelining him for the year. In 2024, he returned but couldn’t lift the team to the playoffs, finishing with a 5-12 record.
While Steelers fans are celebrating Rodgers’ arrival, Russell Wilson seems to be settling nicely into life in New York. Mere hours after the Rodgers news broke, Wilson shared an Instagram story highlighting New York City’s top ranking in Oxford Economics’ Global City Index.
The post read, “New York City ranks as the world’s best city in prestigious new ranking.” He also tagged his wife, Ciara, and added two heart emojis.
Despite a rocky end to the 2024 season, Giants fans may have reason for optimism with Wilson at the helm. New York struggled to find stability at quarterback last year. Wilson, limited to just 11 games due to a calf injury in training camp, still managed to complete 214 of 336 passes for 2,482 yards, with 16 touchdowns and five interceptions.
However, Wilson’s spot as the starter isn’t guaranteed. The Giants selected Jaxson Dart in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft and also have veterans Jameis Winston and Tommy DeVito on the roster, setting up a competitive quarterback room heading into the season.
