Rangers Turn to Familiar Face as Dylan Moore Returns Amid Seager’s Injury
The Texas Rangers made a surprising roster move this weekend, purchasing the contract of veteran infielder Dylan Moore after star shortstop Corey Seager was placed on the 10-day injured list following an appendectomy. To open a spot on the 40-man roster, outfielder Evan Carter was shifted to the 60-day IL with a wrist injury.
For Moore, it’s a full-circle moment. Originally drafted by Texas in the 7th round back in 2015, he was traded a year later before carving out a six-year career with the Seattle Mariners. Known for his versatility, Moore played nearly every position in Seattle, compiled 7.2 WAR, and even captured a Gold Glove Award in 2024. Released by the Mariners last week, he signed a minor-league deal with Texas on August 26—only to be called up days later when Seager’s setback created an opening.
Seager’s absence is a major blow to the Rangers. Despite battling multiple injuries this season, he remains one of the most productive players in the American League, hitting .271 with 21 home runs, 50 RBIs, and a 5.9 WAR—ranking just behind Aaron Judge and Bobby Witt Jr.
The Rangers, already hit hard by injuries to Adolis García, Marcus Semien, Jon Gray, Nathan Eovaldi, and Carter, continue to patch their roster with veteran additions. Moore joins former Mariners Rowdy Tellez and Sam Haggerty as part of Texas’s injury cover crew.
Whether Moore can recapture the spark that made him a valuable utility man in Seattle remains to be seen, but his return to the organization that first drafted him adds an unexpected twist to the Rangers’ roller-coaster season.
Baseball, as always, has a way of coming full circle.
