Cardinals discuss Top outfielder who is available, The club considering after Tommy Edman’s news?
On Thursday, the St. Louis Cardinals received unfortunate news regarding utility player Tommy Edman. Despite ongoing monitoring of his recovery from wrist surgery during Spring Training, the 28-year-old is facing challenges. Expected to serve as the team’s primary center fielder for the 2024 season, Edman is experiencing persistent wrist pain. Consequently, he will be sidelined for Opening Day and will start the season on the Injured List.
St. Louis does have several outfield options available, but considering Edman’s uncertain recovery timeline, signing additional depth could be a prudent move. One notable free agent still seeking a team is veteran outfielder Tommy Pham. Despite a strong showing with the New York Mets and Arizona Diamondbacks in 2023, Pham has yet to secure a new contract.
Pham, originally drafted by the Cardinals in the 16th round of the 2006 MLB June Amateur Draft, began his Major League career with St. Louis in 2014 and played there for over four seasons.
