The Washington Capitals’ winger was uncertain if he would play until just before the game, but Oshie managed to prepare behind the scenes and contribute to his team’s crucial 2-1 road victory.

The uncertainty surrounding his availability for the game epitomizes Oshie’s relentless and tenacious attitude. The 37-year-old forward reflected after the game on the challenges he has faced and what has motivated him over the past few years.
“It’s been a tough road, especially in the last 150 games or so,” Oshie told Monumental Sports Network’s Al Koken. “There was a moment this year where we thought maybe I wouldn’t be able to reach this milestone. It’s been a huge support system for me to get to 1,000. I love those guys, everyone so much, and appreciate them wanting this for me.”
Oshie expressed his gratitude for his teammates’ support, noting that they were willing to go to great lengths to ensure he reached the milestone.
“It’s one thing for a guy to want to get to 1,000 games by himself, but I had teammates telling me they were going to strap me to their backs and throw a jersey on me if it came down to the last game of the year,” Oshie said. “That’s pretty special that we have that type of character in our room.”
