NL East Rivalry Intensifies: Phillies Pose Threat to Braves’ Dominance in 2024

In 2022, the Atlanta Braves clinched the NL East division title, finishing 14 games ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies. However, during the postseason, the Phillies managed to eliminate the Braves from contention.

Fast forward to last year, the Braves won 104 games and again finished 14 games ahead of the Phillies. Yet, once more, the two teams faced off in the postseason, with the Phillies emerging victorious.

According to the Talkin’ Baseball podcast and analyst Jake Storiale, the Phillies might have a good chance of winning the division this year. In a tweet, Talkin’ Baseball suggested that the Phillies could be contenders for the division title.

In the podcast clip, Storiale expressed his belief that while the division might not have been within reach for the Phillies last year, it could be this year. He highlighted the strong performance of key Phillies players like Bryce Harper, Zack Wheeler, Aaron Nola, J.T. Realmuto, Kyle Schwarber, Trea Turner, Jose Alvarado, and others, all of whom are currently at their peak physical condition.

The Talkin’ Baseball crew seems optimistic, taking the “over” in the 90.5 wins odds for the Phillies.

However, winning in the regular season doesn’t always translate to success in the postseason. This might explain why the Braves have struggled to defeat the Phillies in playoff matchups despite their regular season dominance.

Many fans and media observers anticipate a stronger showing from the regular season Phillies in 2024, setting the stage for an exciting competition.
