The Red Sox signed a pitcher from a rival in free agency to strengthen the Squad.
The Boston Red Sox have made an unexpected move by adding former rival pitcher Chase Anderson to their roster in free agency. According to Chris Cotillo of MassLive, the Red Sox have reached an agreement with Anderson, a seasoned right-hander, on a major-league deal despite his age of 36.
Anderson, who boasts a decade of experience in the MLB with a 4.35 ERA over 200 career starts, has previously played for division rivals Toronto in 2020 and Tampa Bay in 2023. Despite a less-than-stellar performance last season, going 1-6 with a 5.42 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP, Anderson brings versatility to the Red Sox bullpen with his ability to pitch multiple innings or serve as a spot starter when needed.
With a key offseason pitching addition sidelined for the entirety of 2024 due to elbow surgery, the Red Sox are in need of depth, and Anderson fits the bill. While perhaps not the flashy signing fans were expecting, the team is taking a chance on him to bolster their pitching staff.
