LAFC appears to be at the forefront in the race to secure Olivier Giroud’s signature this summer, having officially extended an offer to the AC Milan striker.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano on Caught Offside, LAFC stands as the leading contender to acquire Giroud, with the veteran forward’s contract with Milan set to expire in the summer. While staying at San Siro remains an option, Giroud seems inclined towards a move to Major League Soccer (MLS) for a change of scenery.
According to Romano, LAFC has emerged as the frontrunner to secure Giroud’s services on a free transfer. The renowned Italian transfer expert revealed that the MLS outfit has presented a formal proposal to the former Chelsea attacker, who appears to be leaning towards a potential move to the United States.
Romano stated, “Another player on the radar for MLS is Olivier Giroud. Although the deal is not finalized yet, LAFC is actively pursuing him and currently stands as the preferred destination.”
“Giroud has received interest from clubs in the UAE, as well as other MLS teams and Saudi clubs. However, LAFC has submitted a formal offer and is actively pushing for his acquisition. Ultimately, the decision lies with Giroud, and it also involves his family.”
Moreover, LAFC goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is reportedly advocating for Giroud’s move to the MLS club, given their friendship and shared international background.
However, recent reports by The Athletic’s David Ornstein suggested that while LAFC is keen on Giroud, staying in Milan remains a viable option, with interest from other clubs as well. Nevertheless, Romano believes that Giroud may be inclined towards joining LAFC, especially given the concrete offer presented to him.
