Carlton coach Michael Voss has expressed high praise for Elijah Hollands, labeling him as one of the top three players at the Blues during the pre-season. Voss anticipates an immediate impact from the former Sun as he prepares to debut on Good Friday.
Hollands, who recently completed a two-week suspension stemming from a drug possession charge last year prior to joining the Blues, has earned his place in the lineup. Voss highlighted the 21-year-old’s impressive performance over the summer, earning the respect of both teammates and coaches. Hollands will take to the field alongside his younger brother Ollie, filling a half-forward role with dynamic runs through the midfield.
Voss emphasized the significance of Hollands’ inclusion in the team, especially with key defenders Jacob Weitering and Caleb Marchbank returning. He commended Hollands for his dedication and work ethic since joining the club, noting his impressive running capacity and overall contribution to the team dynamic.
Regarding star midfielder Sam Walsh’s recovery, Voss indicated that Walsh is progressing well and is expected to return in either round 5 or round 6. Despite speculation surrounding Walsh’s return, Voss assured that the focus has been on his gradual recovery, with Walsh transitioning into full training next week.
However, Voss mentioned that small forward Jesse Motlop will require additional time before returning to the senior side due to tightness experienced during training as he recovers from a toe injury.
