“From Seminole to Falcon: FSU Defensive Tackle’s Gritty Comeback Bid”
The former Florida State defensive tackle and NFL veteran, Eddie Goldman, is making his third comeback attempt, hoping to revive his professional career with the Atlanta Falcons. After signing with the Falcons in 2022 but retiring before the season, Goldman returned last offseason, briefly making the active roster before being released. Now, he’s back with the Falcons, aiming for one last shot at a successful comeback.
On Tuesday, Goldman signed a new deal with Atlanta after being released from the reserve/left squad list. Despite joining the Falcons for his third season with the team, Goldman hasn’t played in a game since 2021 with the Chicago Bears.
Goldman rejoins a defensive tackle group that includes Grady Jarrett, David Onyemata, Ta’Quon Graham, Tommy Togiai, and Willington Prevlion. His experience could prove valuable if he can secure a spot on the roster.
The Washington, D.C. native spent the first seven years of his NFL career with the Bears, appearing in 81 games with 73 starts. He recorded 175 total tackles, 18 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, one pass deflection, one safety, and two forced fumbles during his time in Chicago. Goldman opted out of the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Before his NFL career, Goldman was a standout at Florida State, earning playing time before becoming a starter in 2013. He was part of the Seminoles’ national championship-winning team, and in his final season, he became an All-American, totaling 35 tackles, eight tackles for loss, and four sacks.
Goldman will have the opportunity to showcase his skills during the offseason with voluntary minicamps, OTAs, and mandatory minicamps, as the Falcons assess his potential impact on the team. Stick with NoleGameday for further coverage of Florida State football throughout the spring.
