Dan Lanning Shares Thought on Arrival of Texas A&M Transfer Evan Stewart

Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks have had an impressive offseason, and as the spring football season commences, attention turns to the integration of new players into the team dynamics. Recently, wide receiver Evan Stewart and cornerback Jabbar Muhammad, two high-profile transfers, joined the team for their first practice session after arriving in Eugene for the spring term.

Oregon has established itself as a breeding ground for top-tier wide receivers in recent years, with Troy Franklin ascending as one of the program’s greatest, alongside Tez Johnson’s outstanding performance last season. Evan Stewart, a standout talent, possesses the potential to rival Franklin’s achievements during his tenure at Oregon. Following Tuesday’s practice, Dan Lanning expressed enthusiasm for Stewart’s addition to the team, highlighting his speed and catch radius as standout attributes that align well with Oregon’s past successes in developing wide receivers.

Stewart arrives at Oregon following two seasons at Texas A&M, where he showcased his prowess by amassing 91 receptions, 1163 receiving yards, and 6 touchdowns. Despite grappling with injuries during his time as an Aggie, Stewart’s impressive career yards per catch average of 12.8 underscores his talent and potential impact.

As the upcoming fall season approaches, the composition of the wide receiver depth chart remains uncertain due to the abundance of talent in the WR room. With returning players like Tez Johnson, Traeshon Holden, Gary Bryant, and redshirt freshman Jurrion Dickey, the competition for positions will be fierce. However, Stewart’s exceptional abilities position him favorably to secure a prominent role within the team, potentially emerging as one of the top options for quarterback Dillon Gabriel next season.
