Sydney Roosters winger Dominic Young faces a two-week suspension following a Grade 3 careless high tackle charge. The former Newcastle Knight was sent off during Friday night’s match after a high shot resulted in Canterbury fullback Blake Taaffe suffering a concussion.
Despite the severity of the incident, the NRL chose not to charge Young with a reckless high tackle. Consequently, as it is his first offense, he has the option to accept a two-match suspension with an early guilty plea or risk a third match if he chooses to contest the charge.
The Roosters were further hampered by concussions to Sam Walker and James Tedesco in the first half, leaving them with 12 players for almost an hour against the Bulldogs. Roosters coach Trent Robinson disputed the severity of the tackle, arguing that it was lower than shoulder height and open-handed.
Meanwhile, Canterbury prop Samuel Hughes was charged with a Grade 1 dangerous throw for a tackle on Joseph Suaalii. The Bulldogs managed to secure a narrow victory despite their significant injury toll.
Additionally, Roosters forward Victor Radley was placed on report and sin-binned for a controversial hip drop tackle, but he has not been cited by the NRL’s match review committee.
Hughes and Young have until Sunday midday to decide whether to accept early guilty pleas or challenge the charges at the judiciary on Tuesday evening.
