The duration of Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story’s absence due to his apparent shoulder injury remains uncertain, suggesting a potentially lengthy recovery period.
In response, the Red Sox have formulated a backup plan. According to reports from Chris Cotillo of MassLive and Alex Speier of The Boston Globe, Red Sox prospect David Hamilton is en route to join the major league team in Anaheim, California. This swift action underscores the team’s proactive approach in light of the situation surrounding Story’s injury.
Meanwhile, Story’s condition appears less favorable. He sustained the injury during a game, prompting immediate concern as he left the field in discomfort following a diving stop in the fourth inning of Friday’s victory.
Although an MRI is scheduled for Saturday, results are not expected until later in the day, leaving uncertainty regarding his status. The Red Sox and manager Alex Cora provided limited information post-game, indicating a likely stint on the injured list for Story.
Hamilton, aged 26, made his major league debut last season but struggled, recording a 4-for-33 performance at the plate in 15 games. Additionally, he made two costly errors during his brief stint in the big leagues. Should he rejoin the Red Sox roster, it will coincide with a matchup against his original drafting team, the Los Angeles Angels, who selected him in 2016.
