Breaking News:letter From the Chief Executive Officer: April 10th, 2024…
Dear valued members,
It is imperative to address the derogatory homophobic comment made by Jeremy Finlayson towards an Essendon opponent during Friday night’s match at Adelaide Oval.
There is no doubt that Jeremy made a significant error and has fully acknowledged his actions, expressing immediate remorse. Both the club and Jeremy have accepted the AFL’s findings and subsequent three-game suspension.
Immediate measures have been taken by the club to offer education and support to Jeremy, our team, and staff. We are also committed to supporting Jeremy and his young family.
We recognize the gravity of this situation and anticipate consistent application of penalties by the AFL in similar cases in the future.
I want to emphasize that the club does not endorse such behavior, and any form of slur has no place in football or in society. Port Adelaide remains inclusive and welcoming to all.
Crucially, I extend sincere apologies to the Essendon player, the LGBTQIA+ community, Port Adelaide partners, our members, supporters, and anyone affected by the offensive remark.
Best regards,
Richo
