After concluding his tenure at Michigan with a national championship, Jim Harbaugh may have chosen to coach the Chargers, but one of the players who contributed to his success believes he’s planning a significant reunion of Wolverines in Los Angeles.
It took nearly a decade, but Jim Harbaugh achieved his goal of leading the Michigan Wolverines to victory in the College Football Playoff National Championship last year, fulfilling the vision he had when he took over as head coach in 2015.
Despite consistent rumors linking him to a potential move to the NFL over the years, Harbaugh’s decision to end his era in Ann Arbor and join the Los Angeles Chargers still caught many by surprise.
While defending the championship would have presented a challenge, considering more than a dozen key players from that victorious season declared for the 2024 NFL Draft immediately after the title game (Michigan ultimately broke LSU’s previous record set in 2020 with 18 players invited to the Scouting Combine).
The exact number of players selected from that group remains uncertain as the NFL Draft approaches on April 25th in Detroit. However, former Michigan wide receiver Roman Wilson hinted during a recent interview that Harbaugh might aim to surpass Georgia’s record of 15 players drafted in 2022.
According to Fox Sports, Wilson believes Harbaugh is keen on continuing Michigan’s success in the NFL Draft. He jokingly suggested that the Chargers might use all their draft picks on former Wolverines before offering a more realistic estimate, stating, “I wouldn’t be surprised if like all nine of us end up going. But seriously, like at least five or six. I think he’s going to take a lot of us.”
Only time will tell how many Wolverines will join Harbaugh in Los Angeles.
