The 2024 season is underway, and it’s a good time to start considering potential trade scenarios. The struggling Chicago White Sox, currently with a 2-12 record, are likely to become sellers before the trade deadline. If they opt for a full rebuild, there are a couple of trade possibilities that could interest the Boston Red Sox.
Despite a mixed start to the season, Boston boasts a talented roster. However, their bullpen could still use improvement, as they currently rank seventh in bullpen ERA at 3.24. Adding another arm could significantly bolster their bullpen, and there’s speculation that the White Sox might consider trading Michael Kopech.
According to USA Today Sports’ Bob Nightengale, “The White Sox may have a valuable trade chip on the market this summer with Michael Kopech, who has been lights out since being moved to the bullpen.”
Kopech, a former first-round pick for the Red Sox in 2014, was one of Boston’s top prospects before being traded to Chicago in the deal for Chris Sale. He has shown immense potential, starting his MLB career as a starter before transitioning to the bullpen in 2024, where he has excelled with a 2.16 ERA and an impressive 12-to-6 strikeout-to-walk ratio in six appearances this season.
Should the White Sox decide to trade Kopech, it would be wise for Boston to inquire about his availability and the potential cost.
