The Kansas Jayhawks emerge as early beneficiaries of the 2024 NCAA Basketball transfer portal.

Keep an eye on the Kansas basketball team as they undergo significant changes following a challenging 2023-24 season, one of the toughest in Bill Self’s tenure. Despite starting as preseason favorites, injuries, internal issues, and a lack of outside shooting contributed to their struggles.

Coach Self has swiftly addressed these concerns by securing commitments from guards Riley Kugel, Zeke Mayo, and most recently AJ Storr via the transfer portal. If Hunter Dickinson decides to return to school, the Jayhawks are poised to enter the upcoming season as strong contenders for the title.

Even though Kansas aims to add more transfers, their offseason has already been impressive. In a recent article by ClutchPoints’ Liam Hanley, he highlighted five teams making waves in the transfer portal, with Kansas topping the list.

Hanley emphasized the significance of Kansas’ acquisitions in addressing backcourt issues, particularly with the addition of Mayo, a proven three-point shooter. With Dajuan Harris anchoring the point guard position and potential returns from Elmarko Jackson and Jamari McDowell, alongside highly regarded recruit Labaron Philon, Kansas aims to bolster its depth.

Mayo, the 2023-24 Summit League Player of the Year, brings scoring prowess and shooting accuracy, while Kugel adds defensive strength and shooting ability from the wing. The centerpiece of Kansas’ transfers is AJ Storr, a former Wisconsin standout known for his scoring versatility, despite needing to improve efficiency. Storr’s addition adds NBA-level talent to the Jayhawks’ roster, enhancing their offensive capabilities.
