Coach declares that Oliver is revitalized and fully prepared to face the Tigers, brimming with energy and determination.
With his troublesome finger now addressed, Melbourne star Clayton Oliver is set to make a strong comeback against Richmond, according to coach Simon Goodwin.
Oliver underwent minor surgery during the team’s recent 13-day break, after struggling with the finger issue, notably in the Demons’ loss to Brisbane earlier in April. Coach Goodwin highlighted the toll the injury had taken on Oliver, emphasizing the relief of having it fixed and seeing Oliver return to training with renewed vigor and enthusiasm.
“It was becoming increasingly challenging for him to perform with the finger issue,” Goodwin explained. “But now, post-surgery, he’s back to his usual self, displaying that same eagerness and energy we saw at the start of the season.”
Regarding the timing of the surgery, Goodwin clarified that it was always planned to coincide with the bye period due to the team’s compact fixture schedule. He emphasized Oliver’s awareness and cooperation in the decision-making process, ultimately resulting in his readiness for the upcoming match.
Alongside Oliver’s return, the Demons will also welcome back Kysaiah Pickett from suspension. Meanwhile, Richmond will see the return of Jacob Hopper and Dylan Grimes, adding depth to their lineup.
Richmond coach Adem Yze acknowledged the importance of the midfield battle, especially after their previous loss to West Coast, and expressed confidence in Hopper’s leadership to make an impact in that area.
Goodwin acknowledged the shared history between himself and Yze, highlighting the mutual respect between the two teams. He anticipated a post-match catch-up with Yze, reflecting on the game over coffee or a quiet beer.
