Kevin Kiermaier #39 of the Toronto Blue Jays
On Wednesday, the Toronto Blue Jays placed outfielder Kevin Kiermaier on the 10-day injured list due to left hip flexor inflammation. In response, the team called up their sixth-ranked prospect, Addison Barger, who is set to make his major league debut in Wednesday’s game against the Kansas City Royals.
Kiermaier exited Tuesday night’s match against the Royals in the sixth inning and was substituted by Cavan Biggio, while Daulton Varsho took over in center field. Kiermaier’s performance in that game was 0-for-2 with a sacrifice bunt.
Having recently celebrated his 34th birthday on Monday, Kiermaier currently holds a batting average of .193 with five runs scored. Throughout his career, he has maintained a .249 batting average, hitting 90 home runs and stealing 128 bases. He boasts four Gold Glove awards.
Meanwhile, Barger, aged 24, will mark his debut in the major leagues. Selected by the Blue Jays in the sixth round of the 2018 draft, Barger has been performing well at Triple-A Buffalo, batting .314 with three home runs and 21 RBIs in 19 games.
