Appalachian State Bolsters Quarterback Depth with Transfer Commitment from Former Southern Miss Starter Billy Wiles

Appalachian State University has bolstered its quarterback depth chart with the addition of former Sun Belt Conference starter Billy Wiles, who committed to transfer during an official visit with the Mountaineers on April 24th.

Wiles, who started in 10 games for Southern Mississippi after transferring from Clemson, showcased his abilities by passing for 1,940 yards and 11 touchdowns in the previous season. Notably, he achieved a career-high of 287 passing yards against App State, one among his five 200-yard games last season.

Commencing his collegiate journey as a walk-on at Clemson in 2021, Wiles earned a scholarship from the Tigers in 2022. Following his transfer to Southern Mississippi, he secured the starting role in the opening game through his performance in summer workouts and fall camp.

With his experience and demonstrated skills, Wiles adds depth to App State’s quarterback group, complementing the returning starter and All-Sun Belt selection, Joey Aguilar.

As a graduate transfer, Wiles retains two seasons of eligibility, providing the Mountaineers with a valuable asset for the upcoming seasons.
