Mississippi State Football sees departure of transfer running back commitment.

Mississippi State Football initially addressed their running back need through the transfer portal but has now lost their commitment from running back Rashad Amos, who flipped his commitment to Colorado. Amos, a former Miami (OH) rusher, had committed to Mississippi State on April 13 but later decommitted and committed to the Buffaloes.

With Amos no longer heading to Starkville, Mississippi State must look for another running back in the transfer portal. They were already pursuing Oregon State-transfer Damien Martinez, but it is believed he will likely commit to the Miami Hurricanes. The Bulldogs’ pursuit of Martinez may have influenced Amos’s decision to decommit.

Other options in the portal include former Colorado backs Dylan Edwards and Alton McCaskill. However, the Bulldogs may struggle to land a high-quality starting running back from the portal, and their current options of Jeffrey Pittman, Keyvone Lee, and Johnnie Daniels will need to step up. The offense may still be successful in 2024, especially with a strong offensive line and vertical passing game, but having a lead back emerge would significantly bolster their rushing attack.
