Following the trade of Diontae Johnson to the Carolina Panthers earlier this offseason, the Steelers found themselves amidst trade rumors involving veteran wide receivers.
With the selection of Michigan’s Roman Wilson in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft, some anticipated these rumors would subside.
However, former Steelers cornerback Bryant McFadden hinted at potential activity, sparking speculation among fans about a possible “significant playmaker” joining the team. Names like Brandon Aiyuk, Deebo Samuel, Courtland Sutton, and Davante Adams were among those discussed.
Despite the buzz, Steelers general manager Omar Khan addressed the rumors, stating on “The Pat McAfee Show” that there was currently no activity regarding trades. While this doesn’t rule out future acquisitions, the team appears satisfied with its current wide receiver lineup.
Wilson, though not highly touted in the draft, could complement George Pickens and Van Jefferson well, given his solid performance at Michigan.
Although the Steelers’ wide receiver corps may not stand out on paper, it could prove effective in the team’s run-first approach under new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith. Additionally, with Khan at the helm, there remains the possibility of adding a significant playmaker in the future.
