Buk M. Buk, the individual who pleaded guilty to the fatal shooting of Utah football player Aaron Lowe at a house party three years ago, has received his sentence. In addition to an 18-year to life term for Lowe’s killing, Buk has been handed another three-year to life sentence for the attempted murder of a woman he also shot during the incident.
The tragedy unfolded when Buk shot Lowe and the woman following an altercation prompted by Lowe’s request for a friend of the shooter to move his car outside the party venue. Despite both victims falling to the ground, court documents revealed that Buk continued to fire at them. Lowe, aged 21, tragically succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while the woman, aged 20, was critically injured but survived after being rushed to the hospital.
Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill expressed hopes that the conviction would offer some solace to the families of Lowe and the surviving victim, acknowledging the importance of justice being served.
While Buk initially faced the death penalty, a decision was made to remove this option from consideration, a choice supported by Lowe’s mother. She voiced her sentiments at Buk’s sentencing, expressing her desire for him to spend the rest of his life incarcerated, emphasizing her lack of forgiveness at present.
