On November 30th, history will be made as Texas A&M welcomes Texas to the gridiron, reigniting one of college football’s most significant in-state rivalries. The Longhorns and Aggies have not faced off since 2011 but are set to renew their rivalry as conference opponents once again.
During a recent appearance at the Houston Touchdown Club, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian addressed the challenge of preparing his team for this highly anticipated matchup to conclude the season. In response, Sarkisian expressed confidence, stating, “It’s not hard at all. We’ll be ready.”
Reflecting on the impact of conference realignment on college football rivalries, Sarkisian remarked, “People are excited about rivalries getting renewed. Everyone is worried about conference realignment and losing rivalries. Well, there are some good ones getting renewed, too.”
With Texas holding a historical advantage in the series at 76-37-5, dating back to their first meeting in 1894, the Longhorns aim to maintain their dominance. They have emerged victorious in nine of the last twelve matchups against the Aggies.
As Texas transitions to the SEC this season, following their inaugural College Football Playoff appearance, they seek to carry forward the momentum. Meanwhile, Texas A&M begins a new era under head coach Mike Elko, following the departure of Jimbo Fisher last season.
