Big 12 Coup: Former Kansas Jayhawks Standout Lands with Rival School via Transfer Portal
The Kansas basketball program managed to retain its roster intact during the recent offseason, a departure from the previous year when Head Coach Bill Self saw seven Jayhawks exit via the transfer portal, leaving the team with a depleted lineup.
Among those who opted for the portal was Joseph Yesufu, who transferred from Drake University. Now, Yesufu finds himself back in the portal after just a year, this time committing to a rival within the Big 12 Conference.
Former Kansas guard Joseph Yesufu has pledged his commitment to WVU, signaling a return to familiar territory for Jayhawk fans. The sixth-year senior is set to feature prominently for the Mountaineers under newly appointed Head Coach Darian DeVries, who shares a close relationship with the 6-foot guard. Yesufu previously played under DeVries at Drake, enjoying a standout sophomore season that propelled him onto the national stage.
After two years at Kansas, Yesufu briefly joined Washington State before a hip injury curtailed his season, leading to a medical redshirt. Despite limited playing time in Lawrence, including a role off the bench during the team’s National Championship-winning campaign, Yesufu now brings valuable experience to his new team and aims to make a significant impact in the conference.
