Erik ten Hag’s replacement at Man Utd? The Dutchman is expected to be replaced by former Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui, who is regarded as “best-placed” for the Red Devils position.

Relevo, a Spanish publication, claims that the 57-year-old is “very well placed” to succeed Ten Hag as United’s manager. According to the source, the Spaniard turned down a lucrative £15.5 million ($19.4 million) per year offer from a Saudi Arabian team since he is now looking for work in England. Additionally, it is said that United like the work the former Sevilla manager did in Europe and at Wolves, a team he departed in August after steering them to a 13th-place finish the previous campaign.

On an almost monthly basis, United frequently swings from a crisis to relative peace. They lost 1-0 to Bayern Munich on Tuesday, which resulted in their elimination from the Champions League. In addition, they have lost the Carabao Cup, which they won the previous season, and they are well behind in the Premier League title race. After Sir Alex Ferguson retired from the game a little over ten years ago, Lopetegui would become their sixth permanent manager if he did take over from Ten Hag.

This summer, after less than a season as manager, Lopetegui left Wolves. Both parties had “accepted their differences of opinion on certain issues and agreed that an amicable end to his contract was the best solution,” thus the club understood he wanted to leave for a while. Gary O’Neil, a former manager of Bournemouth, took over as manager after him.

On Sunday, Ten Hag’s United will visit Liverpool, the top team in the Premier League. If the Dutchman keeps picking up losses, time may be running out, and Lopetegui is probably waiting in the wings.
