Red Sox Considering Trade for Rays’ In-Demand Infielder This Summer.

Thccccc are at a crossroads this season. They have shown potential and have the talent to be a playoff contender, but injuries and inconsistent offense could also see them fall out of contention.

With a 22-22 record over 44 games, the Red Sox aim to improve as key players return from injury. The team has already been mentioned in trade rumors to strengthen the roster.

One trade target for the Red Sox is Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Amed Rosario, according to Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter.

“Amed Rosario signed a one-year, $1.5 million deal during the offseason after a disappointing 2023 season, but he was not far removed from being a 4.2-WAR player in 2022 with the Cleveland Guardians,” Reuter noted. “The 28-year-old is hitting .300/.315/.429 with 11 extra-base hits and five steals in 37 games, and he has started multiple games at second base, shortstop, third base, and in right field.”

Despite Rosario’s strong performance for the Rays this season, he could be traded since he will become a free agent at the end of the year, making him a sensible option for the Red Sox. While Boston doesn’t have long-term issues at shortstop, they need a short-term solution due to Trevor Story’s season-ending injury. Story is expected back next season, and top prospect Marcelo Mayer might debut this season or next.

Acquiring Rosario could allow the Red Sox to move Ceddanne Rafaela back to the outfield while adding a proven veteran to the infield.Previewing the AL East: Boston Red Sox - Camden Chat
