Essendon remains uncertain about the severity of star midfielder Darcy Parish’s latest calf issue, though there’s a chance he could return for the Bombers’ Dreamtime clash.
Parish was a late scratch from Sunday’s game against North Melbourne due to the injury, with young midfielder Elijah Tsatas stepping in. This change followed Nik Cox’s withdrawal earlier in the week due to illness, leading to Dylan Shiel replacing him.
Coach Brad Scott is optimistic about having Cox and defender Jordan Ridley (quad) available for Round 11, but Parish’s status is less clear. Scott noted Parish could have played but might not have been at his best.
“We don’t think it’s serious. He’s got a tight calf,” Scott said. “Even if he could get through and not get injured, is he going to play at his best? The game is too hard for that. It wasn’t like he had no chance of playing, but the decision was easy, especially with Elijah Tsatas available.”
Scott also mentioned that midfielder Sam Durham, who sustained neck and ankle knocks during the game, is not expected to miss any action. Durham was held from returning to the field as a precaution.
The Bombers, currently second on the ladder after 10 games, will remain in Melbourne for next Saturday’s Dreamtime clash with the Tigers, scheduled for a 7:40 pm (AEST) start.
