Roosters hooker Connor Watson, considered a potential surprise selection for the NSW Blues in the opening game of the 2024 State of Origin series, has been sidelined for three to four weeks due to a throat injury sustained during training.
The Roosters confirmed the injury, noting they are seeking expert medical advice to determine the exact timeline for Watson’s return. While initially announced as a three to four-week absence, the duration could vary based on the medical assessment.

This setback is another blow for Roosters coach Michael Maguire, especially considering Watson’s recent strong performances in multiple positions, including hooker, lock, and in the halves. Watson has been particularly impressive since returning from a knee injury that kept him out of the game for over 550 days across two years.
