Zackery had previously narrowed down his choices to four schools: Florida, Michigan, Cincinnati, and Notre Dame. Ultimately, he opted to stay close to home and play for the Fighting Irish. During his announcement, Zackery expressed his strong connection to Notre Dame, stating that he never considered playing anywhere else.
Interestingly, Zackery revealed that he informed Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman of his decision three weeks prior to his official announcement.
