T20 Series: England vs West Indies
A three-match T20 match win for England preserved the five-match series.
With a century of his own, Phil Salt made sure that England completed their third-highest T20 international chase and preserved their five-match West Indies series.
Salt finished unbeaten on 109 after needing just 51 balls to reach his ton. With one ball remaining, Harry Brook’s 21 runs in the last over helped England cross the finish line. West Indies had earlier amassed 222 for six off of 20 overs.
England, who having lost their first two games back-to-back, were relieved to have won.
In the opening match, England was knocked out for 171 in Barbados by Andre Russell (3 for 19). Then, with the hosts’ phalanx of six-hitters putting Jos Buttler’s bowlers to the sword, the West Indies veteran hit 29 off 14 balls.
Then, in Grenada, Sam Curran (50) was the only player to build on his start as Brandon King’s outstanding 82 knock helped the hosts set a mark of 176 for seven, which England failed to surpass by 10 runs.
In order to defend the T20 World Cup that they won in Australia last year, England will visit the West Indies again in June.
