Man Faces Court Appearance After Bold Standoff with Doncaster Bus: The ‘Drunk and Disorderly’ Incident

A 42-year-old man is facing charges of drunken and disorderly conduct after he stood in front of a bus in Doncaster and refused to move. Police responded to the incident on Hartley Street in Mexborough yesterday, leading to bus diversions.

Witnesses reported armed police presence at the scene, where the man was eventually apprehended. A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police stated, “Police were called to Hartley Street in the Mexborough area of Doncaster at 3.30pm on June 4 following a report of a man standing in front of a bus refusing to move.”

The man, identified as Nicky Bowen, 42, of Wild Avenue, Rotherham, has been charged with being drunk and disorderly in a public place. He has been released on bail and is scheduled to appear at Doncaster Magistrates’ Court on July 8.

In response to the incident, bus operator Stagecoach diverted services, stating, “Due to a police incident on Hartley Street in Mexborough, all 221, 218, 218A services towards Rotherham will divert via Greens Way and Rowms Lane.”
