Brian Battie’s Unyielding Spirit: Family Shares Inspiring Update on His Remarkable Journey

AUBURN — A heartening update surfaced on Wednesday from the family of Auburn running back Brian Battie via their GoFundMe page. Battie’s godmothers, who initiated the fundraiser following last month’s tragic incident, shared a glimpse of hope on June 5.

“Brian continues his battle in the ICU, but we’re grateful to relay a positive development: on Saturday, Brian managed to give a thumbs-up to his mother with his left hand and exhibited movement in his left leg. Remarkably, after days of no movement, he also signaled with his right leg. Brian’s resilience shines through; he’s always been a fighter.

“Today, Brian underwent the removal of his ventilator and required a tracheotomy. His journey to recovery remains lengthy, and the Battie Family still leans on the support and prayers of all. As they navigate through the loss of ‘Pooh,’ Brian’s brother, they hold onto hope for Brian’s continued progress. The outpouring of support, generosity, and prayers thus far has been a blessing, and they pray it continues to sustain them through this unimaginable tragedy.”

In another development reported by AL.com on Wednesday, the girlfriend of the alleged shooter has been arrested for reportedly discarding the firearm used in the May 18 incident.

According to the report, surveillance footage revealed the involvement of Nicole Roberts, the girlfriend of suspected shooter Darryl Brookins. Roberts was seen driving the vehicle associated with the shooting and allegedly disposing of the weapon.

Last week, Auburn offensive coordinator Derrick Nix expressed his thoughts on the situation, stating, “My heart has been heavy… What’s going on with Brian, we pray for him.”

The Tampa Bay Times recently reported that Battie faces the potential of permanent paralysis. However, amidst uncertainty, one thing remains certain: Battie’s unwavering determination to fight through this adversity.

Court documents obtained by The Tampa Bay Times highlighted Battie’s critical condition, emphasizing the prognosis of permanent paralysis if he survives.

Battie was one of five victims involved in the tragic shooting near the Tallywood Centre Plaza in Sarasota.
